BMW intercooler (FMIC)
In BMW turbo engine, like in all turbo engines the intake air temperature is absolutely significant. With every degree up or down, you will lose or gain that previous horsepower. Hot air is less dense and oxygen rich by nature (resulting in less power output), but in addition to that your Engine Control Unit will actively limit the engine power whenever the IAT shows any signs of rising.

Therefore a high performance intercooler is always a beneficial upgrade, even in stock engine.

VRSF intercoolers are designed specifically for each BMW model and engine to offer an efficient solution.

BMW Z4 35i E89 for N54

This intercooler kit fits in BMW Z4 35i and 35si E89 models with N54 engine. You can choose between the more than sufficient Street core, or sturdy Competition and Race cores for extreme applications. However, please note that Comp/Race cores might need modification for the plastic shroud behind front bumper.

Street core is optimized for power output up to +500hp, while with Competition and Race core you’ll achieve even stronger cooling capacity with flow capacity up to +800hp and +1100hp applications accordingly.

Intercooler core and construction

OEM BMW tube and fin intercooler is designed to support low boost levels and air flow. However, once boost levels and air flow are increased, the OEM unit simply can not keep up with the cooling demands any more.

VRSF core comes with high density bar-and-plate design to allow efficient temperature reduction with minimal pressure drop. Intercooler is specifically designed for upgraded turbo cars running larger turbos and higher boost pressures. Core features a cast aluminum end tanks for improved flow and durability.

Installation

All needed accessories are included, to make installation possible even in home garage if you will. Normal tools and equipment with some extra time should be enough.

STREET kit doesn’t need modifications for bumper or structures, Competition/Race core might need modification of the plastic shroud around intercooler.

Depending on your trim level and model, it’s always good to be prepared for some minor trimming or honing for that perfect fitment.
