SEVERE GEAR® hypoid gear oils (GL-5) are formulated with the finest synthetic base stocks. Exclusive additives form a protective iron sulfide coating on gear teeth. These oils withstand extremely high shear forces and temperatures. Low friction improves efficiency and lowers oil and component temperatures. Excellent metal adhesion (affinity) prevents the oil from spinning off the gears at high rotational speeds. Thanks to its 100% synthetic composition, SEVERE GEAR performs exceptionally well in extreme temperatures—it flows well in cold conditions and withstands the high heat of racing applications.

What should you know about this product?

• Extreme Protection and Durability: Withstands extremely high shear forces and temperatures. Exclusive additives form a protective iron sulfide coating on gear teeth.
• Efficiency and Thermal Management: Low friction improves efficiency and lowers oil and component temperatures. Excellent metal adhesion prevents the oil from being flung off the gears at high rotational speeds.
• Cold and Hot Properties: The 100% synthetic composition ensures excellent performance in extreme temperatures—it flows well when cold and withstands hot racing conditions.
• Limited Slip Capability: Contains the friction modifier additive required by limited slip differentials and also works in Torsen-type differentials. This additive-treated oil is also recommended for use in open differentials as it improves efficiency.

Note: Most clutch-type limited slip differentials work with SEVERE GEAR oils as is (e.g., Eaton), but occasionally, a differential may chatter. In this case, the amount of friction modifier additive must be increased using AMSOIL Slip Lock Additive (ADATB).

APPLICATIONS and Specifications

SEVERE GEAR is suitable for all types of use: high-performance street cars, road racing cars, rally cars, drag racing cars, off-road vehicles, SUVs, pickups, towing trailers, trucks, and semi-trucks.

Specifications: All differentials requiring API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J classifications. Can also be used when API GL-4 is recommended.

Available Viscosities (Severe Gear)

• 75W-85 (SVL): Select this viscosity. See the attached data sheet for detailed information.
• 75W-90 (SVG): Use when 75W-90 or 80W-90 is recommended.
• 75W-110 (SVT): Use when 75W-90, 80W-90, or 75W-110 is recommended. Slightly thicker than 75W-90 but causes no significant power loss compared to 75W-90.
• 75W-140 (SVO): Use when 75W-140, 80W-140, or 85W-140 is recommended.
• SAE 250 (SRT): For Formula Off-Road and nitro dragsters.
