ACL Plastigauge AG-1 – Bearing Clearance Measuring Strip (Green)
ACL Plastigauge AG-1 is a reliable and critically important tool for measuring bearing clearances when assembling an engine, replacing bearings, or performing performance builds.
Every time bearings are replaced or an engine is built, the bearing clearance must be checked before final assembly.
Correct bearing clearance is especially critical in a tuned or high-performance engine.
Clearances that are too tight will simply not work and will inevitably lead to problems.
The AG-1 model – the commonly used “green” Plastigauge – covers the typical clearance range found in most passenger-car and light-vehicle petrol engines (0.025–0.076 mm).
Each package includes 10 long measuring strips, providing enough material for multiple measurements.
How to Use the Gauge
Plastigauge is used by placing a small strip of the material between the journal and bearing shell, assembling the bearing cap and tightening it to the specified torque.
When the bearing is removed again, the strip will have flattened to a width corresponding to the actual bearing clearance.
You can then use the printed scale on the Plastigauge envelope to easily determine the measured clearance.
It is a quick, simple and reliable method for confirming clearances, especially in places where traditional tools do not fit.
The strip allows easy clearance checking even when bearings are replaced “from underneath” without removing the engine.
