BMW Fxx and Gxx models – OPF monitoring coding (Motorsport vehicles only and customers outside Finland)
In cases where a BMW originally equipped with OPF particulate filters is used with an exhaust system that does not include those filters, the vehicle settings must be coded accordingly. Otherwise, the car may quickly enter “limp mode” due to fault detection.
This limp mode behaviour can be coded out in situations where it is legally permitted. In that case, the vehicle will no longer monitor the OPF filters or trigger fault codes related to them.
Important notes:
OPF particulate filters are a legally required component in most vehicles that were fitted with them from the factory. Some of our products and services are intended for international customers across different markets.
If the vehicle is used on public roads in Finland, we cannot perform this modification.
Examples of cases where this service can be used:
- Vehicles converted for motorsport use, unregistered cars, or drivetrain swaps where the original powertrain and control units are moved into a race vehicle.
- Customers in markets where OPF filters are not required, for example vehicles sold from one country to another.
- This function does NOT disable the catalytic converters or the systems that monitor them.
This change does not require an ECU unlock and does not involve editing the engine control unit software. It is also compatible with newer “locked” BMW engine control units.
The work can be carried out locally at our Vantaa location, or remotely if needed. Contact our sales team if you have any questions.
