Description

Your HPFP is an integral part of the MQB platform direct injection (DI) system and provides exceptionally high-pressure fuel (exceeding 2900psi) to the injectors. The stock unit quickly becomes an issue, after exceeding anything over a typical Stage2 tune – or even at that if you’re running strong torque numbers.

There’s a variety of pump upgrades available for these engines, of which we have personally tested pretty much all of them at our numerous MQB custom projects. Some of the aftermarket solutions are simply made with such bad tolerances, that they shouldn’t be allowed to sell at all.

Based on our experience, we’ve selected only the best and most effective ones in our selection. This IE solution offers the maximal capacity and reliability. This pump has the greatest capacity, constant diameter piston, titanium retainer and it comes equipped with a new seal and cap unlike many of the other kits on the market. All set for big power!

  • Highest flowing MQB HPFP upgrade on the market
  • Constant diameter piston design for long-life operation
  • Pptimal upgrade for strong Stage2, ethanol use and hybrid turbo Stage3 tunes
  • Reliably adds a larger fuel ceiling for increased flow
  • The piston diameter increased from 9.92mm to 11.68mm
  • Stroke volume increased from 231mm^3 to 321mm^3
  • Broken-in and bench tested on in-house pump dyno
  • Tool steel DLC coated pin
  • Nitrided tool steel cylinder
  • Molybdenum disulphide leak-free seal
  • Stainless steel seal body
  • Buna-N rubber oil resistant o ring
  • Engineered, designed, & manufactured in the USA

Increased displacement
Golf R HPFP
Upgrading to IE’s HPFP reliably increases the flow rate of the high-pressure pump for more tuning headroom to increase power safely. The result is a maximum gain of 38.58% over stock.

Consistent diameter piston

While many other upgrade kits on the market use a piston that steps down to a smaller diameter, IE have done it better. The tapered piston is usually done to use the original seal and nut assembly. However, doing this means that less than 1/2 of the cylinder is simply guiding the pin at the top of the stroke. This greatly increases wear, leakage past the pin, and decreases the stability of the pin riding in the cylinder. Additionally, using a stepped cylinder causes a pumping action on the bottom side of the piston, which pulses fluid against the shaft seal, increasing the possibility for leakage into the cam follower region. With IEs consistent diameter piston, as with factory design, there is no displacement change occurring on the bottom side of the piston, so there are no pressure pulses against the shaft seal.

The piston is DLC treated (diamond-like carbon coating), this is an advanced coating process which combines hardness and low friction, providing excellent wear properties and self-lubrication behavior that drastically extends pin life.

OEM+ tolerances
EA888.3 HPFP tolerance
Every piston and cylinder is CNC machined to exacting sizes, assembled, and measured as a matching set in-house. Tolerances are hand-verified using specialized measurement tools and verified down to 0.00005 of an inch to ensure reliability and proper function. These extreme manufacturing and QC processes are the foundation of a strong product.

Nitrided piston and cylinder
The cylinder of HPFP pump can see up to 19000 strokes a minute with an astonishingly thin tolerance – and all of this is lubricated by fuel only! Our tool steel cylinder is nitrided to guarantee it can withstand this torture. This advanced process infuses nitrogen atoms into the atomic structure of the outer surface of the component, increasing surface hardness and wear properties drastically. The thickness and quality of every nitride production batch are independently verified in a specialty lab.

Spring and retainer
In place of the factory steel spring retainer, the IE HPFP uses an ultra-lightweight titanium retainer. Just like a valve spring and retainer, less weight is better, as it reduces the chance of valve float happening. Our retainer was carefully FEA optimized and features a deep weight reduction groove on the outer surface. We also maintain the factory spring, as we have tested them to over 8000 rpm with zero valve float. Other pumps available use an unnecessarily stiffer spring, which puts more pressure on the follower and causes an unnecessary increase in cam follower wear.

Custom seal
The IE HPFP uses a molybdenum disulphide impregnated seal, which increases the stiffness and reduces friction on the seal. Along with this, our custom seals are spring energized to keep them sealing throughout their life with no concern of wearing and leaking. Many of the other HPFP kits on the market reuse the factory seal, which can easily be damaged when the internals are installed. That often causes fuel to leak past the seal and into the crankcase.

Tested before shipping
Each one of the HPFP kits is tested on a fuel pump dyno before shipping. This is done to break-in all components and as a final quality control step. Manufacturers custom-built dyno is fitted with a motor to drive the pump exactly as if it were installed on a running FSI engine.

Made in the USA
These pumps are manufactured in Salt Lake City.

Compatibility

This fuel pump will fit nearly all MQB EA888 Gen3 2.0T engines, that are fitted with OEM Hitachi pump. Some of the earliest non-mqb platform engine variants were fitted with Bosch pump, which is not compatible with this upgrade. If you have any doubt, don’t hesitate to ask our support.

Typical use cases are Volkswagen Golf R / GTI Mk7 and MK7.5, Audi A3 / S3 8V, Seat Cupra, Volkswagen Passat / Arteon / Tiguan, Skoda Superb, and many more.

Installation
For installation, please see attached instructions. Note that you’ll need a special tool for this job, which can be found in related products listing below.
EA888.3 HPFP installation instructions (with IE tool)

Can I install this pump without any other modifications?
Pump is a direct fit, but to benefit from it optimally it is recommended to have a matching tune to utilize the IE HPFP.

Is there a special break-in procedure required once I install the IE HPFP?
No! manufacturer does a break-in for each and every pump on their custom fuel pump dyno, which makes for less work for the end user.
