This Steeda kit combines a 95 lb/in clutch-assist spring with a heavy-duty spring perch. It replaces the original 200 lb/in spring for a more linear engagement feel. The stronger perch also replaces original supports damaged during removal or installation.
The firm original spring changes assistance through the pedal’s arcing movement, first compressing and then extending after about 30 degrees. The softer spring reduces this effect. Piano wire maintains elasticity and resists sag in repeated use.
Removing the spring entirely can make the clutch heavy, introduce pedal chatter and prevent full return. Steeda warns that this may leave slave-cylinder seals continuously loaded and cause leakage.
